Cookie Policy

Last updated: 22 June 2026

This Cookie Notice explains how the UComms website, ucomms.net, uses cookies and similar technologies. It should be read together with the UComms Privacy Notice.

CMRE uses cookies in a privacy-protective manner and seeks to limit their use to what is necessary for website functionality, security, consent management and, where the user agrees, website analytics.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on a user’s device by websites they visit. Cookies may allow a website to function correctly, remember user preferences, maintain security, or collect information about how the website is used.

Cookies may be set directly by the website being visited, known as first-party cookies, or by third-party service providers, known as third-party cookies.

2. Types of cookies used by this website

A. Strictly necessary cookies

Strictly necessary cookies are required for the website to function correctly. They may be used to maintain security, manage sessions, remember cookie preferences, or enable access to restricted areas.

These cookies do not require prior consent because they are necessary for the service requested by the user.

The UComms conference management functions are provided through the external Ex Ordo platform. Ex Ordo may use strictly necessary cookies for login, session security, user authentication and protection against cyber-security threats such as cross-site request forgery. Users should also consult Ex Ordo’s own cookie and privacy information when using that platform.

B. Analytics cookies

The website may use Google Analytics to collect statistical information about how visitors use the website, such as pages visited, time spent on pages, approximate geographic location, browser type and device information.

Google Analytics cookies are used only where the user has provided consent through the cookie banner. Where analytics are used, CMRE will configure them in a privacy-protective manner, including by reducing identifiability where technically possible, for example through IP masking or equivalent settings.

Analytics cookies are not necessary for the website to function and may be accepted or rejected by the user.

3. Cookies used

The cookies used by the website should be listed below once confirmed by the website administrator.

Cookie duration varies depending on the cookie type. Session cookies expire when the browser session ends. Persistent cookies remain for the period indicated in the table above, unless the user deletes them earlier or changes their browser settings.

4. Google Fonts

The website may use Google Fonts to display fonts consistently. Google Fonts does not normally place tracking or profiling cookies in the user’s browser; however, when fonts are loaded from Google servers, technical data such as the user’s IP address and browser information may be transmitted to Google in order to deliver the font files.

To minimise unnecessary third-party transfers, Google Fonts have been successfully configured to be hosted locally on the website’s server.

5. Managing cookie preferences

Users can accept, reject or manage non-essential cookies through the cookie banner displayed on the website.

Analytics cookies should not be placed unless the user has provided consent. Users should be able to change or withdraw their consent at any time, for example through a “Cookie settings” link available on the website.

Users may also manage cookies through their browser settings. The main browsers provide cookie controls, including:

Please note that disabling strictly necessary cookies may affect the functionality of the website or the Ex Ordo conference platform.
